Our Safety Practices

Background Checks

Every Launch Valley Tutoring tutor completes a criminal background check before their first session. So does every owner of the company. We re-run them annually.

Our checks are run by Checkr, a third-party consumer reporting agency. Each one includes:

These are commercial database and county courthouse record searches. They are not fingerprint-based California DOJ or FBI checks, and they do not include a separate federal court records search. We search county courthouses directly because that is where criminal records actually live. Database-only checks miss records that courts never upload.

We look for offenses involving minors, sexual offenses, violent offenses, and offenses involving fraud or dishonesty. Anything that comes back is reviewed individually against the role before a tutor is cleared to work.

On-Site Security Cameras

Our Northridge office is monitored by security cameras. They record video only, never audio, and they cover the areas where sessions take place.

This is a safety measure, for students and tutors alike. We do not monitor sessions live or review footage in the ordinary course. Recordings are looked at only if there is a safety concern, an incident, or a dispute, and they are kept for a limited time and then overwritten. Families consent to this recording in the Tutoring Services Agreement.
