Launch Valley Tutoring ("LVT," "we," "us") provides academic tutoring and test-preparation services. Tutoring is delivered by qualified tutors engaged as independent contractors. The parent or guardian ("you") is responsible for the account and all payments.
All tutoring is purchased as prepaid hours. You purchase a package of hours, and each completed session is deducted from your hour balance. Your balance is visible in your TutorBird account. Purchased hours never expire. Hours may be used for any of our services, but hours are unique to the enrolled student and cannot be shared or transferred, including among siblings. Rates are set by your student's level and by the size of the package purchased; larger packages are offered at a lower per-hour rate. Families with two or more enrolled students receive a 10% sibling discount on refill purchases. Current rates are available in your parent portal.
New families begin with a 5-hour introductory package at 20% off, backed by our money-back guarantee. If you are not satisfied, you may request a full refund of the introductory package, regardless of how many of the five hours were used, at any time before you purchase additional hours or within 14 days of your fifth introductory session, whichever comes first. After that point, the introductory payment is final. This guarantee applies only to the introductory package; hours purchased afterward are governed by Section 7.
When you purchase your introductory package, your payment method is securely saved with our payment processor, Stripe. You authorize LVT to charge that saved payment method for tutoring hours you purchase, including when you are not present at checkout.
No automatic charge will occur unless you enroll in Automatic Refill. If you choose to continue with us after your introductory package, you may enroll by selecting a refill size of 5, 10, or 20 hours. Once enrolled, we will charge your saved payment method for your selected refill size whenever your hour balance falls to two hours or below, at the per-hour rate for your student's level and package size. Refills are not charged on a fixed date; they occur only when your balance reaches this threshold, so their frequency depends on how quickly you use your hours.
We will email you before each automatic refill is charged. You may change your refill size, pause automatic refill, or turn it off entirely at any time by contacting us, and requests take effect within one business day. Turning off automatic refill does not affect hours you have already purchased. We require a valid payment method on file and strongly recommend a backup card. If a charge fails on all cards on file, we will notify you, and no further sessions may be scheduled until payment is resolved.
Once your student is matched with a tutor, you coordinate scheduling directly with that tutor. Sessions are booked from your available hour balance. When your balance reaches zero, no further sessions may be scheduled until your account is refilled. We do not reserve or guarantee a fixed weekly time slot; recurring times are arranged between you and your tutor and are subject to that tutor's availability.
Cancel or reschedule with at least 24 hours' notice and no hours are deducted from your balance. For cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice, and for no-shows, we reserve the right to deduct the session from your hour balance as a used session. If a tutor cancels a session, no hours are deducted.
Purchased hours never expire and remain available for future sessions, so we do not issue refunds simply because hours are unused. If you wish to close your account and cash out your remaining balance, we will refund your unused hours at 75% of their purchase value, returned to your original payment method. To request this, contact us directly; for your security, we confirm all account and refund requests with the account holder before processing them. The introductory package is governed by Section 3.
Every enrollment includes the following at no additional charge: homework between sessions, assigned by your tutor on request; weekly tests on request, with optional proctoring at our Northridge office (academic students receive a standard diagnostic test, and SAT/ACT prep students receive a full-length practice exam); study access to our Northridge office during normal business hours; a monthly parent-tutor conference, on request; a one-time, one-hour meeting with a test-taking expert, on request; and our tutor rematch guarantee: if your tutor is not the right fit, we will match your student with a new tutor at no charge, and the first session with the new tutor is free. These benefits are complimentary, have no cash value, are not refundable or exchangeable for tutoring hours, and are subject to scheduling and availability. We may reasonably adjust how these benefits are delivered.
We are committed to your student's progress, but we do not guarantee specific grades, test scores, or academic outcomes. Results depend on many factors, including the student's effort, attendance, and engagement.
We ask that students and families treat our tutors with respect. We reserve the right to decline or discontinue service in cases of abusive conduct or repeated policy violations.
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes to rates or to the automatic refill terms will be communicated with at least 30 days' notice.
Every LVT tutor completes a criminal background check before their first session, as do all three owners of LVT, and we re-run them annually. Checks are conducted by Checkr, a third-party consumer reporting agency, and include identity and address history verification, a national criminal database search, county criminal records searches for every county the tutor has lived in, a multi-state sex offender registry search, and a global watchlist search. They are not fingerprint-based state DOJ or FBI checks and do not include a separate federal court records search. We look for offenses involving minors, sexual offenses, violent offenses, and offenses involving fraud or dishonesty. Full details are at launchvalleytutoring.com/safety.
Tutoring takes place at our Northridge office or online. We do not offer sessions at homes or other locations, and tutors cannot transport students. Online sessions are held on Zoom. The meeting link is sent to you, not to your student, and you may join any online session at any time, without notice. Cameras stay on for the full session on both sides, and online sessions are not recorded, by us, by the tutor, or by the student. In-person sessions at our Northridge office are recorded by video-only security cameras, as described in Section 15.
All payment for tutoring and related services goes through LVT. Tutors cannot accept payment, tips, or gifts directly from families, and cannot take on private engagements with enrolled families during their time with LVT. If you would like additional services or hours, contact us and we will arrange it.
For the safety of students, tutors, and staff, our Northridge office is monitored by security cameras. These cameras capture video only. They do not record audio. In-person sessions held at the office are recorded by these cameras.
This footage is a safety and record-keeping measure, not an instructional or monitoring tool. We do not watch sessions live, and we do not review recordings in the ordinary course. Footage is accessed only in connection with a safety concern, an incident, a dispute, or a legal or regulatory request. It is otherwise retained for a limited period and then overwritten, is handled in line with our Privacy Policy, and is never shared publicly. By accepting this agreement, you consent, on behalf of yourself and your student, to this video-only recording of in-person sessions at our office.
